The Olgiata area was once home to the Etruscans. The ruins of the city of Vejo, which represented one of the most important settlements of this civilization later overshadowed by the Roman Empire, are visible a short distance away; the field is still crisscrossed by Etruscan tunnels and caves carved into the tuff.

In the Middle Ages the area was disputed among the great local families: the Anguillara, the Orsini, and the Chigi. In 1566 a wealthy family of bankers, the Olgiati, came to Rome from Como, bought various lands from the Duke of Bracciano, Paolo Giordano Orsini, and named this estate Olgiata. In 1578 Baldassarre Olgiati decided to expand his holdings and bought the whole Cesano area to turn Olgiata into a fiefdom and ask the pope for a noble title.

The family succeeded in obtaining the title of Marquis but Duke Orsini took Cesano back after only four years. Olgiata remained the subject of exchanges, bankruptcies, bankruptcies and auctions for much longer until Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta received it as a wedding gift from his mother, a Chigi, in 1930. He moved there with his wife and turned it into a full-fledged farm where flax, barley, oats and wheat were grown. The castle that stands in the center of the estate, built between 1400 and 1500, is a typical Roman country manor with a surrounding wall and four towers. The small chapel , located just outside the walls, is decorated with magnificent frescoes.

In the late 1950s, the General Real Estate Company, which had become the owner of that little natural paradise where the great champions of world horse racing, Nearco, Tenerani and Ribot, all belonging to the Dormello-Olgiata breed, were born, sensed that the fabulous green oasis on the Cassia, just a few kilometers from the Capitol, was ideal for the construction of a residential center served by large sports facilities, including a new large golf course.
